Data Cabling Installation Cat5e/cat6

Additional Information

Data Cables are used to transmit information from transmitter to a receiver.

Examples of Network Data Cabling are:

  • Ethernet Cable (Cat5, Cat5e, Cat6, Cat6a.)
  • Coaxial Cable
  • Telecommunications Cable (Cat2)

Cat5e/Cat6 cable is used for both commercial and domestic properties unless specified otherwise. Cable can be run any route - inside or out. we specialise in fault finding, so if your cable is broken, we can’t resolve this problem, or if you are simply unhappy with where your current data cables are placed then we can move them to a new location or replace if necessary. HDMI over Cat5e/Cat6 can also be arranged if needed, to many locations within your household or work place.

G.K Data solutions can install a range of cabling solutions including Cat5e/Cat6, we install, terminate, test (fluke tested if requested) and maintain all works, further to this, here at G.K Data Solutions, we can fault find, diagnose and repair any issues, use cable management to keep all works neat and tidy - to the highest standard. Additionally, we can enclose any cabling and health check your existing cabling.

There are many types of Data Cable,

But what one I right for you?

Cat5

This is quite outdated option for cabling with new and more perfected types of cable having been introduced. Cat5 used to be a common Cable standard.

Cat5e

The subsequent standard is Cat5e, and the “e” stands for “Enhanced.” Cat5e cable is produced to a higher standard, then Cat5. Cat5e can have speeds of 1000 Mbps, and is used in many residential and commercial properties. This is the slowest cable that anyone should use for a new Ethernet setup, however it has an advantage of being a cheaper option then other cabling solutions.

Cat6

The next standard up is Cat6, these are wound more tightly, and have additional shielding to reduce interference. Cat6 can run to 10 Gbps, however these speeds are limited to 55 meters, which is considerably less than Cat5e, and on longer runs the Gbps is also reduced. While the speeds are faster for Cat6 on shorter runs, the downside is that the wires are stiffer making them more difficult to bend, and the thicker wires are more difficult to terminate. Cat6 used to be a lot more expensive than Cat5e, however the price difference has reduced over time.

Cat6a

Cat6a is not often used in residential properties, due to the fact of further reduced flexibility. It has Even Thicker shielding then Cat6, an can be run to 100metres like Cat5e but with 10Gbps.

Coaxial Cable

Coaxial cable is used as a transmission line for radio frequency signals. Its used for feed lines to connect radio transmitters and receivers with their antennas, computer network (Internet) connections, digital audio (S/PDIF), and also for distributing cable television signals.

Telecommunications Cable

Cables are usually known to transmit electric energy (AC/DC); however, cables in telecommunications fields are used to transmit electromagnetic waves. Telecommunications are based on transmitting modulated waves/signals through a medium and receiving them. When the distance between the transmitter and receiver is far, or an unguided medium transmission is used, antennas are used; otherwise, telecommunications cables are used in guided medium transmission.
